All you need to know about ‘The Afterparty Season 2’

Sam Richardson, Zo Chao, and Tiffany Haddish will all be back for a new murder mystery.

The Afterparty, a popular whodunit on Apple TV+, will have a second season.

The first season’s murder takes place at a high school reunion afterparty, and each episode was narrated from the viewpoint of a different character. According to the creator Christopher Miller, “audiences are savvy these days. Being one step ahead of them is a huge challenge because they are more advanced than they were in the original Murder on the Orient Express.”

The focus of season two will be on a different afterparty with an almost all-new cast.

Plot

Season 2 will take place at a wedding, where a groom is murdered. While most of the season two of The Afterparty’s plot is currently under wraps, we do know that it will take place at a wedding where every attendee is a suspect.

Per Apple, “Detective Danner (Haddish) returns to help Aniq (Richardson) and Zoë (Chao) solve whodunnit by questioning family members, star-crossed lovers and business partners, and hearing each suspect’s retelling of the weekend, each with their own unique perspective and visual style.”

Cast

Tiffany Haddish, Sam Richardson, and Zoë Chao are the only returning cast members. Sam Richardson’s Aniq and Zoe Chao’s Aniq and Zoe will help in identifying the murderer, and Tiffany Haddish’s Detective Danner will return to solve the case.

“I grew up reading Nancy Drew books and then Agatha Christie books, and movies like Arsenic and Old Lace, Gosford Park, or Scream are just my favorite,” Chao told T&C around season one. Creating a murder mystery show like The Afterparty, Chao said, “takes such precision to keep everything straight, it was like making eight movies from eight different perspectives, so to try to keep track of where we were inside of each story could be a challenge. There would be days when we were inside of three different genres, looking at the same scene three different ways, and it was easy to get lost. But it was fun! It was like doing a crossword puzzle nonstop.”

Elizabeth Perkins, Zach Woods, Paul Walter Hauser, Poppy Liu, Anna Konkle, Jack Whitehall, Vivian Wu, John Cho, and Ken Jeong join the cast as the new group of party guests.

Release Date

On April 28, the first two episodes will be available on Apple TV+. The following eight episodes will then start airing every Friday. June 23, 2023, will see the premiere.
