Ali Abbas Zafar is on a roll. He has bagged a 3-film deal with the OTT giant, Netflix. He is on set to make the biggest female-centric film to date by spending almost 200 crores. The film is going to star Katrina Kaif and will be a 2 part superhero film for Netflix.
Reportedly, he is all set to make another film for Netflix as a producer. A source of Bollywood Hungama revealed that after Ali’s next production ‘Khaali Peeli,’ he is set to support another story. The film will be set up in 1984 about the Punjab Riots starring Diljit Dosanjh in the lead. The script is ready and the actor has been locked and will go on floors after the COVID-19 situation eases. The film will be directed by one of Ali’s assistant directors. He promises that this story will be exciting as the audience is uninformed of the backdrop and story.
Moreover, it is going to be a human drama against the riot background. Ali has called the subject “desh ki mitti sejuda hua” which is exactly what Netflix wants.
Netflix has not been able to push the envelope with Indian content after Sacred Games Season 1. So Netflix is looking for content to target the Indian audience and find content deep-rooted with the culture. Netflix recently announced 17 originals shows and movies from India which will be exclusively available to Netflix.
This will be an exciting collaboration as Ali knows the Indian mass audience. He has delivered content successfully before and his 3 film deal with Netflix will help both experience a new palate of cinema.
Ali’s film with Katrina is expected to hit in late 2021 or early 2022 but no date has been finalised for his collaboration with Diljit.
