Tylor Swift creates history with global Icon win at BRIT Awards’ 2021

Taylor Swift has another prominent award to add to her ever-growing exhibition.
Taylor Swift made history, becoming the first woman, non-UK artist, and youngest person ever to win the BRIT Awards’ Global Icon honor at the BRIT Awards 2021. And while Swift thanked a lot of people in her speech, including all her fans, her shoutout to boyfriend Joe Alwyn, and close friend Selena Gomez were special and notable.
Before Taylor could accept the award, a short video featuring her close friend Selena Gomez, Annie Lennox, Zoë Kravitz, and Ed Sheeran played out. Praising Taylor, Selena said, “Taylor is the same girl I met when I was 15. And she cares so deeply for her fans. I wish I could be there and just support you and hang out with you. You deserve it and you’re amazing.”
Taylor then emotionally began to thank all those who have played a major role in her music career on the stage after receiving the award. The singer also thanked her collaborators who worked with her on multiple songs and albums.
“I want to thank the BRITs or anyone who decided that I would be worthy of this incredible honor,” the singer said in her acceptance speech. “I’m really, really proud to be a part of this music community, especially in a year when we all needed music so much.”
Past winners of the award include Sir Elton John, David Bowie, and Robbie Williams.
