Messi returned to Spain for one of the biggest music festivals of the year after scoring the title-winning goal for PSG against Strasbourg on Saturday night, breaking Cristiano Ronaldo’s record for most goals in European football.
The 35-year-old was spotted in the audience at Coldplay’s concert at Montjuic Stadium and seemed to be making an effort to maintain a low profile. The World Cup champion quickly discovered that was impossible when the assembled Barca supporters recognised him sitting in the lower bleachers and started singing his name in unison.

Messi reportedly skipped the annual UNFP ceremony, which recognises the top players in Ligue 1, Ligue 2, and the D1 Arkema (Women’s first division), in favour of attending the concert, according to RMC Sport. Messi was one of four PSG players nominated to the Ligue 1 squad of the year, including Kylian Mbappe, Achraf Hakimi, and Nuno Mendes.
Along with Neymar, Messi has had a difficult second season at PSG and has frequently come under fire from the fan base. With no extension in sight as his contract at PSG nears its end, the seven-time Ballon d’Or winner is being firmly linked with a return to Barca.
