A new Bengali musical collaboration titled “Shunyota” was officially unveiled during a press interaction held at Gaan Bahon Studio in Kolkata on Saturday evening. The event, which took place between 5:00 PM and 7:00 PM, brought together members of the media, musicians and invited guests for the first public introduction of the album.

The album was officially released on March 7, 2026 at 5:00 PM and is now available on major digital streaming platforms under the banner of Gaan Bahon Music Records.

A collaboration from Kolkata’s independent music scene

“Shunyota” is the result of a creative collaboration between composer and vocalist Rahul Majumdar, lyricist Arunangshu Banerjee, and guitarist and arranger Rudraneel Chowdhury.

The project reflects a structured creative process in which each artist contributed at different stages. The compositions were first developed by Rahul Majumdar, who shaped the melodic framework of the songs. Lyricist Arunangshu Banerjee then wrote the lyrics to match the emotional tone of the music, while Rudraneel Chowdhury added guitar arrangements and instrumental layers that helped define the album’s sonic character.

During the press interaction, the artists described how the collaboration evolved through multiple studio sessions to shape the final sound of the album.

A concept album built around the theme of “emptiness”

Unlike many modern releases that focus on standalone singles, “Shunyota” has been conceived as a thematic album.

The project features five original tracks:

  • Shunyota
  • Alsey Dupure
  • Ghumio
  • Amari Theke Jabe
  • Amio Raji

Each song explores a different emotional perspective while remaining connected through the central theme of “Shunyota,” which translates to emptiness.

Lyricist Arunangshu Banerjee said writing for a concept album presented a unique challenge.

“All of my write-ups and songs usually range across a wide variety of topics. Writing five songs for the album Shunyota meant creating five different stories in continuum while maintaining a common theme — emptiness or ‘Shunyota’. That challenge was something new for me.”

Reviving the storytelling format of albums

The creators of the album said the project was designed to revive the storytelling tradition of music albums, which they believe still holds cultural value despite the dominance of short-form digital content and viral singles.

Through its five songs, “Shunyota” explores themes such as love, longing, solitude and hope, creating an emotional journey that moves from introspection toward healing.

The final track reflects how individuals often rediscover hope through relationships and shared experiences, completing the narrative arc of the album.

Streaming availability

The album is currently available across major music streaming platforms, including:

  • Apple Music

  • Amazon Music

Listeners can access the full album through these platforms.

Growing momentum for independent Bengali music

The unveiling of “Shunyota” reflects the growing presence of independent Bengali music collaborations emerging from Kolkata’s studio ecosystem.

As the album begins its journey across digital platforms, its creators hope listeners will experience it as a complete musical narrative rather than just a set of individual songs — a journey through emptiness, reflection and ultimately hope.
