AR Rahman’s film 99 Songs is about the mystical and healing power of music

Music maestro AR Rahman turns producer and joins hands with Jio Studios for his first movie 99Songs which stars newcomers EhanBhat and EdilsyVargas and directed by Vishwesh Krishnamoorthy.

99 Songs, produced by AR Rahman, the Madras Mozart, marks the debut of the film’s lead actors, Ehan Bhatt and Edilsy Vargas. Vishwesh Krishnamoorthy is the director of the film. The trailer of 99Songs was released on Tuesday, March 23rd.

99 Songs has striking imagery, thanks in part to its attractive main cast. In the trailer, Manisha Koirala takes a brief cameo. 99 Songs appears to be a fun, almost fantastical musical drama so far. The visual effects and camera work are excellent. However, the storey of a young artiste who falls, rises, and apparently finds ultimate salvation in the “magic of music” seems a little jaded.

“The film follows the journey of a young man named Jay whose life revolves around his two great loves: music and his girlfriend Sophie,” according to the synopsis for 99 Songs. As part of my production company, YM Movies, I’m happy to collaborate with Jio Studios in bringing together this experiential movie,” AR Rahman said in a statement about 99 Songs.

The film ’99 Songs’ is about a man’s battle with the old and new worlds. And music is the antidote. It’s my pleasure to introduce Vishwesh Krishnamoorthy, the film’s director, and a gifted cast that includes Ehan Bhatt and Edilsy Vargas. Working with icons like Manisha Koirala and Lisa Ray, as well as music legends Ranjit Barot and Rahul Ram, was a dream come true.”

On April 16, the film 99 Songs will be released in theatres.
