Vidya Balan’s ‘Shakuntala Devi’ announces its OTT release date

Coronavirus pandemic has left the film industry in a big loss. The release of many movies has been postponed and after looking at the uncertainty of global pandemic many films have decided to opt for OTT release. Last week Disney+hotstar announced the release of seven movies in its platform. And now Vidya Balan’s ‘Shakuntala Devi’ has announced its release date. Yes, it’s confirmed Vidya Balan starrer ‘Shakuntala Devi’ will be premiering on Amazon Prime Video on July 31. The film will get a global release on the OTT platform.

The announcement was made through a video featuring Balan where she is seen asking viewers to solve several challenging mathematics problems. The video ended with Balan giving the answer of the questions as “31072020” and announcing that film will release on July 31.

The movie is directed by Anu Menon. The film is produced by Sony Pictures Networks Productions and Vikram Malhotra of Abundantia Entertainment.

In the film, Vidya will be seen essaying the role of the globally renowned Indian mathematics genius, who was popularly known as the “human computer”, Shakuntala Devi and Sanya Malhotra who will be seen playing the role of Shakuntala Devi’s daughter with whom the genius enjoyed a complicated but extraordinary relationship. The film also stars Jisshu Sengupta and Amit Sadh in key roles.

The teaser of the film was released in September last year and showed Vidya Balan’s first look as Shakuntala, dressed in a bright red saree and sporting a short hairdo. In the teaser’s background, Vidya’s voiceover said, “The world called her many things, but we know her by the name of Shakuntala Devi.”
