Valimai, starring Ajith Kumar, has set a new non-holiday opening day record in Tamil Nadu. On day one, the film grossed around Rs 28.25 crore, making it Ajith Kumar’s biggest opening ever and the second biggest of all time in Tamil cinema, right behind Sarkar, which was released during Diwali.
The H Vinoth directed actioner has been in the headlines ever since its release with fans, trade and reviewers discussing the contents.
Some viewers have expressed dissatisfaction with the film’s length, particularly in the second half. According to reports, Ajith Kumar, Boney Kapoor, H Vinoth, and the entire Valimai crew have heard the remarks.
“Since it was constructive feedback from multiple places, the team has voluntarily decided to trim the film. While the Tamil version has been cut short by 12 minutes, the Hindi version has been trimmed by 15 minutes.”
The crew has willingly opted to shorten the film because it received positive feedback from numerous sources.
A source close to the project disclosed, “While the Tamil version has been shortened by 12 minutes, the Hindi version has been shortened by 15 minutes,”
Aside from the 15-minute cut in the Hindi version, the film’s opening song, Naanga Vera Maari, has been removed, resulting in an overall cut of almost 18 minutes.
The print adjustments are set to take effect starting with Friday’s late-night shows. According to the source, Valimai ticket prices are lower on Friday than on Thursday, and single-screen distributors have adopted a four-show-per-day strategy, which is standard for all Tamil films.
Valimai is expected to have a double-digit second day, according to early estimates, however, the trend in the evening and night shows will provide a more accurate picture.
