Pan-India star Samantha Akkineni has begun filming for Gunasekhar’s Shaakuntalam. The creators took to Twitter to make the announcement with a video on Monday, June 28. Glorified to be an epic love tale, the movie will see Samantha Akkineni playing the role of Shakuntala while Dev Mohan will portrayed by Dushyanta.
Shaakuntalam will narrate the epic tale of King Dushyanta and Shakuntala, daughter of sage Vishwamitra and Apsara Menaka. Sharing the information, the creators wrote, “The second schedule of #Shaakuntalam begins #EpicLoveStory @Gunasekhar1 @Samanthaprabhu2 @ActorDevMohan #ManiSharma @neelima_guna @DilRajuProdctns @GunaaTeamworks (sic).”

The film will be bankrolled by Neelima Guna under the Gunaa Teamworks banner. National Award-winning costume designer Neeta Lulla is supervising the outfits for Shaakuntalam, Mani Sharma will be composing music. The images of Samantha Akkineni in a traditional saree from the sets of ‘Shaakuntalam’ are currently going viral on Twitter
The film is helmed by Gunasekhar, who is popularly recognized for the blockbuster women-centric mythological movie, Rudhramadevi. Shaakuntalam has been creating headlines ever since it was declared. With the second wave of coronavirus lockdown being hoisted and the Coronavirus cases subsiding, Tollywood is back to shooting with movie shoots resuming at a speed.
