Karan Johar’s mega project ‘Takht’ SHELVED

Takht starring Alia Bhatt, Ranveer Singh, Kareena Kapoor Khan, and directed by Karan Johar is now shelved. The reason is yet unknown.

India being the 2nd most populated country in the world, with a gigantic 1.2 Billion population. If we consider that every 5th person out of 1.2 billion likes watching Bollywood movies. Then our country has over 200 million views waiting for new blockbusters to release every week. Everyone remembers a movie by its name or by the actors featuring in it. Whereas, very few recognize the efforts of the Director in making that film so entertaining.

One of such is Karan Johar, who has managed to imprint his name on the audience’s mind. People still watch a few of his masterpieces with the same enthusiasm. Some of such films are, Kuch Kuch Hota Hai (1998), Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham (2001), Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna (2006), My Name Is Khan (2010), Student Of The Year (2012) and Ae Dil Hai Mushkil (2016). Even the songs from these films are known to represent a generation.

Due to this success that he gained, everyone from the industry was excited when Karan announced his next directorial, Takht. Though that didn’t last for much longer. As Karan has decided to shelve ‘Takht’, the reason has not yet been disclosed. But the managers of the casted actors were informed about this. There are reports that Karan too felt the heat of pandemic, and he couldn’t take a risk of making a film with such a huge budget of 250-300 crores.

There are few more speculations for scrapping this project. Takht story was based on Mughal history and looking at the current situation in the country, he was scared of getting Padmaavat like treatment. Also, his expensive films like Brahmastra and Liger are already in production or awaiting release, along with his mid-sized ones like Shershaah, Dostana 2, Jug Jugg Jeeyo and Shakun Batra’s next. Adding Takht to this list won’t be a good idea.

The sources revealed, “Karan tried pitching his film Takht, to production houses like Fox Star Studios and many more. But they too did not show any interest in investing such a huge amount with all the pandemic situations still going on.”
