On Monday, the Central Board of Film Certification [CBFC] told Bombay High Court [BHC] that Kangana Ranaut, the co-producer and the lead actress of Emergency, has accepted the cuts made by the CBFC Revising Committee to the movie.
The submission was made before a Bench of Justices BP Colabawalla and Firdosh Pooniwalla by Abhinav Chandrachud who appeared for the CBFC.
The court was considering a petition filed by Zee Studios, the co-producers of the film which have been seeking the release of the censor certificate for the film.
It was filed after a controversy arose based on allegations of inaccurate portrayal of the Sikh community in the movie. Last week, the CBFC claimed that after listening to the Revising Committee, it was possible to release the movie after some cuts.
As the hearing proceeded today, Zee’s counsel, Sharan Jagtiani SCA, informed the court that Ranaut had accepted the cuts proposed earlier. However, he wanted some directions on how to ascertain that these would be the only changes that would be needed.
Advocate Chandrachud who represented the actress has agreed to the changes as proposed by the Revising Committee and was quick to note that the cuts made shifted from the original by less than one whole minute of the movie. “Milords, the cuts suggested don’t even touch a minute of the film. It’s just some words here and there,” he said.
However, since Zee has asked for discretion regarding the same, the matter was set for mention October 3 on appellants seeking proper instructions.
