The Bombay High Court formed a three-member committee on Wednesday to see the film “I Killed Bapu” that was recently released on an OTT platform and submit a report to it.
Former High Court judges Abhay Thipsay and Amjad Sayed, as well as actor Amol Palekar, were appointed to the committee by Justices Sunil Shukre and Firdosh Pooniwalla.
According to businessman Mohamed Ansari, the film by Sarla Saraogi was made to “create disharmony between two religions and is also an insult to Father of the Nation Mahatma Gandhi by holding him responsible for the partition of India.”
The businessman requested that the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) immediately revoke/withdraw the certificate awarded to Saraogi and issue an injunction prohibiting Saraogi and the OTT platform from airing the film.
The HC has instructed the panel to watch the film and report back in two weeks if there is any destruction of facts in the film and if any scene or speech can create communal violence or disturb social peace and harmony.
The film was released on September 29.
