22 years of Kareeb: When Vidhu Vinod Chopra bit his actress’ right hand for a proper scene

Vidhu Vinod Chopra directorial Kareeb completes 22 years in the Bollywood industry today. The Bobby Deol starrer was released in the year 1998, July 17. The movie was a clean hit at the box office with chartbuster songs.
We have often heard stories about directors going way too far to create a great sequence in a movie. We have heard stories about how the acclaimed Hollywood directors were very hard to work with.
Vidhu Vinod Chopra is also known for his anger issues on the movie set and one of the incidents which happened during the shoot of Kareeb is known by a very few. While giving an interview to Filmfare where Bobby opened up about his experience of working with Vidhu Vinod Chopra, he revealed an incident which was related to his co-star Shabana Raza who was then known as Neha during the film’s release.
“For one scene Neha had to come down a mountain and give me her left hand. But she kept getting confused. When she couldn’t get this right after repeated takes, Vidhu asked her to bite her right hand. She did, but yet she got it wrong in the next take. After 20 takes, Vidhu lost his cool. And you know what he did? He bit her right hand! I was too shocked to react. Poor thing, she was shivering with fright. But even in the okay take, she gave me her right hand,” Bobby mentioned in the interview, reminiscing about his experience of working with a newcomer.
In the same interview he revealed that the director, Chopra didn’t treat him that way because his father was famous.
