Bharatiya Janata Party leader and veteran actor Mithun Chakraborty cast his vote on Saturday in the final phase of the Lok Sabha polls. The actor was seen at a polling booth in Belgachia, West Bengal, fulfilling his civic duty.
Speaking to ANI, Mithun said, “I am a BJP cadre, I have done my duty. I will talk about films from tomorrow because I have to feed my family too.” His statement highlights the balance he maintains between his political responsibilities and his long-standing film career.
Mithun Chakraborty has been a prominent figure in the film industry since 1976, earning numerous accolades, including the National Award. Recently, on April 22, he was honored with the Padma Bhushan award, India’s third-highest civilian award. Following the honor, Mithun met with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, marking their first meeting since the actor’s recent hospitalization due to a stroke.
Mithun’s son, Mimoh Chakraborty, shared heartfelt photos of the duo on social media, expressing his admiration for his father’s achievements. He wrote, “What an honor and privilege it is to be your son! You are my hero, dad! You are the greatest man I know, and you are so deserving of this award! Congrats on your Padma Bhushan Award! ❤️❤️❤️.”
As voting continues in West Bengal’s nine constituencies, including Barasat, Basirhat, Diamond Harbour, Dum Dum, Jaynagar, Jadavpur, Kolkata Dakshin, Kolkata Uttar, and Mathurapur, the state sees a fierce contest with 904 candidates in the fray. Prominent candidates include Prime Minister Narendra Modi, BJP leaders Ravi Shankar Prasad and Nishikant Dubey, Congress leaders Manish Tewari and Charanjit Singh Channi, and actor-turned-politician Kangana Ranaut from the BJP.
Mithun Chakraborty’s journey from a celebrated actor to a dedicated politician illustrates his commitment to both his craft and his political ideals. Despite health challenges earlier this year, including a stroke that led to hospitalization, Mithun remains active in his dual roles. He even shared that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had personally called to check on his health and urged him to take better care of himself.
