Maharashtra CM Uddhav Thackeray spoke to Rohit Shetty and others in the film business before the lockdown

The increasing COVID-19 cases in Maharashtra has led to the government implementing lockdown till April 30th.

Maharashtra is seeing a huge increase in COVID-19 cases as the second wave of the pandemic hits the state. Almost 50000 cases are being reported every day. This has led to Maharashtra government to issue a lockdown-like situation in the state till the end of this month.

While the shooting of films and TV shows have been given a thumbs up, the multiplexes and single-screen cinemas will be closed down. But before taking this decision, CM Uddhav Thackeray met with the stakeholders of the cinema business on April 4th. This is because this harsh decision could greatly affect the film industry. The meeting included director-producer Rohit Shetty, Kamal Gianchandani (PVR Pictures) and Kapil Agarwal (UFO Moviez) among others.

Sources state that Rohit Shetty’s decision to postpone the release of Sooryavanshi was a great relief to the CM. “Uddhav Thackeray Ji appreciated Rohit Shetty as he took the brave and difficult decision of postponing his film, Sooryavanshi. Rohit, in turn, agreed that the industry should support the government’s endeavour of saving lives,” the source further added.

The CM also stated that ‘Zindagi, Jaan aur uske baad kaam’ is the priority of the government at this point. Sooryavanshi was all set to release on April 30th this year. It stars Akshay Kumar and Katrina Kaif in the lead roles.
