When BTS ‘almost’ became Twitter’s CEO with Elon Musk

BTS once found themselves at the center of a unique and intriguing proposal involving Twitter, now known as X. Back in 2022, while Elon Musk was exploring potential CEO candidates for Twitter, a fan suggested an idea that caught Musk’s attention. The fan tweeted, tagging Musk, “I think BTS should become the joint Twitter CEO.” This tweet quickly went viral, and Musk responded with a simple “Great Idea.” While it’s unclear if Musk was genuinely considering the idea or just playing along with the fan’s suggestion, it highlighted BTS’s massive global influence.

BTS leader RM also joined the conversation, sharing the tweet and Musk’s response on his Instagram story with a laughing emoji, showing he was amused by the notion.

This wasn’t the first time Elon Musk made headlines with his comments about BTS. In a previous interview, Musk mentioned he would be interested in “buying” the group due to their skyrocketing popularity. This remark was met with criticism from fans, who found it disrespectful.

If BTS had actually become Twitter’s CEO, it’s likely that X would have been painted in ARMY’s signature purple by now, reflecting their strong fan base’s influence.

On the current front, six of the seven BTS members are in the midst of their mandatory military service. The eldest member, Jin, was discharged on June 7, 2024, after serving 18 months. J-Hope is next in line to return, while SUGA, RM, Jimin, V, and Jungkook are scheduled to complete their service by June 2025. Until then, BTS members are actively pursuing their solo careers, releasing new music and keeping their fans engaged.
