Spider-Man 4 may be officially in development at Sony and Marvel, yet we’re no closer to finding out when it could swing into cinemas.
Marvel Studios did hold an epic Comic-Con panel where Kevin Feige affirmed Phase Five release dates and a couple of significant Phase Six releases. However, a new Spider-Man film was never going to be announced there as it’s a Sony release.
Before No Way Home dropped, long-term Spider-Man producer Amy Pascal said a new trilogy was in progress. However, she backtracked on that at the premiere in December 2021 to say it was basically just a wish.
Hope we’ll see Tom Holland as Spider-Man again in the MCU. With that in mind, here’s what you need to know about Spider-Man 4.
Spider-Man 4 Plot
‘No Way Home’ ends with nobody knowing that Peter Parker is Spider-Man, including MJ and Ned. Peter is as yet doing his Spidey business in the world though, so it’s not like he’s retired.
What it implies is that a potential 4th film can do anything that it loves, whether that is having Peter train up a new Spider-Man, a standalone adventure where he faces a new villain or something else entirely.
One potential option is to deliver a long-awaited fight between Spider-Man and Venom on the big screen. As we saw in the Venom 2-credits scene, Eddie Brock and Venom are transported to the MCU.
It’s because of the botched spell that Doctor Strange casts, yet he rectifies it toward the end which means Eddie and Venom are returned to their universe. A piece of the Venom symbiote is left behind though, so it could take over somebody in the MCU.
We’d be surprised if the MCU set up its own Venom however as Tom Hardy is so famous with fans. So we imagine if the face-off is going to occur, they’ll find a way for either Spidey to cross into Venom’s universe or vice-versa.
Spider-Man 4 Cast
Tom Holland will for sure be part of Spider-Man 4. We’d imagine that Zendaya and Jacob Batalon would come back as MJ and Ned, separately.
One person who certainly won’t be in it is Marisa Tomei, as Aunt May is unfortunately killed by the Green Goblin. The multiverse does offer the possibility of an alternate Aunt May (like the alternate Spider-Men), however, we feel this will not be done.
Spider-Man 4 Potential Release Date
As mentioned above, Spider-Man 4 may be in development but doesn’t yet have a release date affirmed.
There have been two years between each Spidey outing in the MCU, yet it’s unlikely that we’ll see the 4th film in 2023. Sony already has two Marvel films for the next year: Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse (June 2) and Madame Web (October 6).
