Shakira opens up on her splits with soccer player Gerard Piqué, says “feeling complete”

Shakira recently discussed her emotional dependence on males in an interview with Enrique Acevedo of Canal Estrellas, as well as her inability to acknowledge her weaknesses.

The Colombian artist Shakira revealed that she once believed a partner was necessary for her to feel whole. She recently discussed her emotional dependence on males in an interview with Enrique Acevedo of Canal Estrellas. She also discussed how difficult it was for her to own her flaws and embrace her fragility. Following her breakup with Gerard Piqué, Shakira is gaining confidence and learning to rely on herself.

“I’ve always been very emotionally dependent (on men) – I have to confess this. I was in love with love,” Shakira, told the host.

Shakira now says that she’s “on the way the way up” and has “managed to feel that I am enough” — something she “never thought would happen.”

Shakira continued, emphasising how facing our challenges makes us stronger than ever: “When a woman has to face (hardships) in life, she comes out stronger. When you come out stronger it means you’re learning to recognise your weaknesses and accept your vulnerability.”

Since the separation, she claims that she’s on the rise and has finally felt sufficient, which is something she never imagined would happen. “I feel complete — because I feel like I can depend on myself and I have two kids who depend on me. I have to be stronger than a lion. That strength, in order for it to be real and not a façade… it needs to be the result of a great pain. Accepting that pain and tolerating the frustration because there are things in life that don’t turn out the way we want them to.”

“We regret to confirm that we are separating. We ask for privacy at this moment for the well-being of our children, who are our maximum priority. Thank you in advance for your understanding and respect,” the couple said in a joint statement.

After that, Piqué and his girlfriend Clara Chia Mart, 23, made their relationship official on Instagram in January. Shakira, meanwhile, has three new songs out that appear to address the breakup.

The most recent is a song they wrote together, named “TQG,” with another Colombian superstar Karol G. It’s about witnessing a previous partner go on and how it made them stronger.
