In Deadpool & Wolverine, Wade Wilson (Ryan Reynolds) and Logan (Hugh Jackman) embark on a wild adventure across different universes, packed with surprising cameos. Fans are buzzing with curiosity about which characters in the film are original and which ones come from Marvel Comics.
Spoiler Alert: The following contains major spoilers for Deadpool & Wolverine.
The multiverse in the film introduces a variety of Marvel variants, and because Deadpool and Wolverine are the main stars, we see multiple versions of them. For Logan, this includes a Wolverine that looks just like he does in the comics, along with another version that’s a big fan favorite. Meanwhile, Deadpool faces off against an entire army of his own variants, led by the formidable Lady Deadpool.
One standout among the many Deadpool variants is Nicepool. He’s not just another obstacle for Deadpool and Wolverine to overcome; he has his own story arc and helps the heroes survive in a place called the Void. Nicepool gets a lot of screen time and seems like he might be a nod to a specific comic book version of Deadpool. But where exactly does Nicepool come from?
Where does Nicepool come from?
Despite appearances, Nicepool is not based on any existing Marvel Comics character. He’s a creation specifically for Deadpool & Wolverine. Played by Ryan Reynolds, who also portrays Deadpool, Nicepool is a fresh take on the character. Unlike the gruff and sarcastic Deadpool we’re used to, Nicepool is depicted with a full head of shiny hair and an unusually cheerful attitude.
Although Nicepool is a new addition, the idea of different Deadpool versions isn’t new. Marvel Comics has introduced various alternate Deadpools over the years, like Lady Deadpool, Dogpool, and even Zenpool, who is more peaceful. Nicepool’s tendency to enjoy the little things, even in the midst of danger, could be inspired by Zenpool. However, his distinct golden guns and special abilities make him a unique character in his own right.
Unlike the original Deadpool, Nicepool doesn’t have the regenerative healing factor that makes Wade Wilson nearly invincible. This lack of healing powers leads to a tragic end for Nicepool in the film’s third act, meaning he probably won’t appear in other MCU projects. Nonetheless, he plays a memorable role in the MCU, and he’s responsible for introducing Deadpool to his loyal companion, Dogpool!
