Everything you need to know about House of the Dragon season 2 cast preview ‘all out war’ at London premiere

House of the Dragon season 2 set the London premiere on fire with all the fanfare and anticipation fitting of this summer’s most talked-about TV show. Our intrepid What to Watch correspondent, Matt Higgs, took to the red carpet, rubbing shoulders with the cast to uncover what fans can expect from the upcoming season. As Aemond Targaryen himself, Ewan Mitchell, succinctly put it, “all out war.”

This escalation shouldn’t surprise anyone, considering it was Aemond’s ruthless act—aided by his fearsome dragon—that sparked the conflict by slaying Lucerys Velaryon, the first official casualty in the brutal war between the Blacks (loyal to Rhaenyra) and the Greens (supporting Alicent and Aegon II’s claim to the Iron Throne).

Reflecting on the tensions building up in season 1, Mitchell remarked, “Season 1 saw this family’s world on a knife’s edge, and all it was going to take was a push from either side to draw blood. Aemond drew first blood, so season 2… it’s all out war.”

Returning stars Bethany Antonia (Baela Targaryen) and Harry Collet (Jacaerys Velaryon) further stoked the excitement for the new season. Collet, visibly awestruck, teased, “It’s crazy—I can’t put it into words without saying too much, but it’s brilliant.” Antonia echoed the sentiment, promising fans that season 2 is “bigger, better, and times 10.” She tantalizingly teased more dragon riding and classic Game of Thrones chaos, including surprises from new characters.

While fans have their cherished favorites, so do the cast members themselves. When asked which character they’d like to portray other than their own, Collet’s choice was Daemon Targaryen (played by Matt Smith), capturing the allure of the complex and enigmatic character. However, Aemond Targaryen proved a popular pick among the cast, with both Antonia and new addition Abubakar Salim (who also considered Lord Larys Strong) expressing their admiration.
