Drake’s Toronto mansion was the target of a drive-by shooting early Tuesday morning, which gravely injured a security guard.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Toronto police arrived quickly to the scene at Bayview Avenue and Lawrence Avenue in the city’s Bridle Path sector, where a security officer stationed outside Drake’s home was attacked. The injured guard was transported to Sunnybrook Hospital for treatment.
Inspector Paul Krawczyk, appearing during a press conference outside Drake’s home, offered preliminary details about the event.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, he stated, “That person was working as a security guard at the residence. He was standing outside the gates in front of the house when the shooting took place.”
Authorities have obtained video evidence from security cameras installed outside Drake’s residence, which depicts the sequence of events.
“We have individuals who obviously performed the shooting, who were seen in a vehicle. I do not have a description of the vehicle or the suspects at this time. Again, it’s very early on in the investigation,” Krawczyk stated, emphasising the continued efforts to piece together critical information.
While the investigation continues, speculation arises in light of Drake’s current conflict with fellow rapper Kendrick Lamar.
Recent developments in their musical feud, like Drake’s release of ‘The Heart Part 6’ to rebut Lamar’s charges, have brought their animosity to the forefront.
However, Krawczyk declined to make direct connections, noting, “It is so early in the investigation that we don’t have a motive at this time,” according to The Hollywood Reporter.
As the investigation continues, Toronto police will undertake extensive searches around the neighbourhood, looking for any witnesses and further camera evidence to provide light on the events surrounding the incident.
