Coldplay fans shocked as hotel prices soar from Rs 2,500 to over Rs 1 lakh

As Coldplay prepares to bring their Music of the Spheres tour to India in January 2025, excitement among fans is palpable—but so is the sticker shock on hotel prices. The British pop-rock band’s return to India for the first time since 2016 has driven demand for accommodations in Mumbai and Ahmedabad through the roof, with prices skyrocketing as high as ₹1.17 lakh per night in some cases.

Following the concert announcement, digital travel platform Agoda reported a 33-fold increase in hotel searches on its site compared to the previous week. Indian fans especially showed enthusiasm, with searches for domestic accommodations increasing 45 times on the day of the announcement.

It’s not just Indian fans, though; international Coldplay enthusiasts are also keen on attending the concerts. Agoda’s data reveals that the top international markets looking for Mumbai accommodations during the concert dates include France, the UAE, the UK, Spain, and Australia.

Krishna Rathi, Senior Country Director for Agoda in the India Subcontinent and MEA, commented on the trend: “Earlier this year, we saw Indians travel to Thailand for Coldplay’s Bangkok performance. The band’s popularity here suggests that Mumbai is about to be the stage for something truly unforgettable.”

In Ahmedabad, where Coldplay will perform on January 25, 2025, hotel prices have similarly surged. Fans on social media, particularly on platform X, have been sharing their disbelief as rates climb up to ₹50,000 per night, an enormous leap from typical prices.

With Coldplay fever gripping the country, both concertgoers and hoteliers are enjoying a para-para-Paradise, albeit with mixed emotions over the skyrocketing room rates. Fans are urged to book their accommodations early as the high demand shows no sign of slowing down.
