Indian cricketer Yuzvendra Chahal and choreographer Dhanashree Verma have officially ended their marriage following a decree granted by the Mumbai Family Court. The couple had filed a joint petition for divorce, which was accepted by the court, effectively dissolving their union.

The proceedings culminated after the Bombay High Court intervened to expedite the process. On March 19, 2025, the High Court waived the mandatory six-month cooling-off period typically required in mutual consent divorce cases. This decision was influenced by Chahal’s upcoming participation in the Indian Premier League (IPL), set to commence on March 22, 2025. Justice Madhav Jamdar directed the family court to finalize the divorce by March 20, considering the couple had been living separately for over two and a half years.

Initially, the family court had refused to waive the cooling-off period, citing only partial compliance with the consent terms. As per the agreement, Chahal was required to pay ₹4.75 crore to Dhanashree as part of the settlement. However, the court noted that he had only paid ₹2.37 crore at the time. Additionally, a report from the marriage counselor indicated partial compliance with mediation efforts. Despite this, the High Court ruled that the consent terms were met, as the second installment of the payment was scheduled to be made only after the divorce decree was granted.

Chahal and Verma married in December 2020 but reportedly began living apart in June 2022. Their separation has been a topic of public interest, with both parties maintaining a relatively private stance on the matter. The swift conclusion of their divorce proceedings allows Chahal to focus on his professional commitments, particularly the forthcoming IPL season.
