Amitabh Bachchan and Irrfan Khan were seen together in ‘Piku.’ An interesting thing happened between the two legends on the set of the movie. It was the first day of their shoot together. Irrfan was amazed to see Big B rehearse so much before the scene. After a lot of consideration, Irrfan decided to join in the rehearsal. They were rehearsing the scene where Irrfan had to handover his license to Big B.
During the rehearsal, Irrfan would switch his hands while handing over the license. Sometimes, he used his right hand and sometimes left, “Irrfan, with his theatre background, was free-flowing. Improvisation was a key to his practice. On the other hand, Mr Bachchan rehearses one thing so many times that he makes it perfect,” ‘Piku’ director Shoojit Sircar tells ETimes exclusively.
Just before the take, Amitabh talked to Irrfan about this situation. According to Shoojit Sircar, Bacchan asked Irrfan, “Ek baat poochoon?” Irrfan wondered what it would be, ki pata nahin kya ho gaya hai- but all the same he went ahead and said “Sure.” Bachchan said, “Before the take, can you tell me whether you will give me the license with the right hand or the left hand? Because then I will react accordingly.” Irrfan responded, “Sir, aap bataaiye, which hand should I use?” Mr Bachchan said, “No, I don’t have a problem either way, but tell me which hand you plan to use?”
After this conversation, Irrfan decided to go with the right hand. He was curious to know if Amitabh was particular about certain things. He went to talk to the director and said, ” ‘Kya ye itna sab dekhte hain?’. Shoojit smiled and told him: ‘Yeh commas and fullstops bhi dekhte hain’. “And then, he started having fun interacting with him, and the bonding between the three actors made ‘Piku’ what it was,” Shoojit concludes.
Amitabh and Irrfan did create a very strong and affectionate bond. Big B was really upset with the news of Irrfan’s death. He even took to Twitter to talk about it.
