Ranveer Singh had posted a photo on Instagram to announce his collaboration with Pen Studios and Shankar Shanmugham for the remake of ‘Anniyan’. Now the actor has again posted a photo of him with Shankar and wrote, “What an honour…. to be under the tutelage of one of the finest minds in cinema…. (emojis) (emojis) @shanmughamshankar”
In reply of which, Shankar Shanmugham posted one of the same pictures of Ranveer’s post, and wrote, “He is a maverick and charismatic showman no one else can play!

In an interview, the director had said, “For it to be made into a Hindi film, Anniyan needed a maverick, charismatic showman like no other to play the part. I found this in the mercurial Ranveer Singh because he is a one-in-a-generation actor who has shown us that he can immortalise a character through his stellar performance. I’m thrilled to make Anniyan for the pan-Indian audience and I’m confident that this powerful story will strike a chord in the hearts of all. Anniyan was released in 2005 and was a Tamil-language psychological action thriller film.
