‘Saina’ was about to be shelved again says director Amole Gupte

Saina was about to be shelved for the fourth time reveals director Amole Gupte. Earlier, Shraddha Kapoor signed the film and later backed out in midway.

The film ‘Saina’ starring Parineeti Chopra in the lead has quite a lot of history behind it. The movie was announced back in 2017 and has been delayed since then.

The project was initially offered to Shraddha Kapoor who was suppose to play the lead until she bowed out of the project midway. In 2019, Parineeti Chopra stepped in and the script came to life again.

Saina is a movie based on the life of female badminton player Saina Nehwal, the movie captures all true life events and it’s all set to be in theatres on 26th March.

The trailer of the film was launched recently in the city. At the event, Gupte acknowledged the support of producer Bhushan Kumar.

“I cannot forget the solid, rock like support of Bhushan Kumar. The film was about to be shelved four time. He would ask me, ‘Don’t we have to (make the film)? I’m here.’ That’s the strength of the man who stood behind me. Otherwise we wouldn’t have reached this (stage) today,” Gupte said at the trailer launch event.

At the event, Gupte was also asked about the reason for Shraddha Kapoor stepped out of the movie. He avoided answering the question by saying that he cannot talk much as he recently recovered from COVID-19. “What did you say? I couldn’t hear. I can’t answer this question, I am shivering,” he quipped and asked to move on to the next question.

Saina also marks Gupte’s return to direction after four years.
