Rhea Chakraborty’s bother Showik Chakraborty gets bail, 3 months after the arrest

In a recent judgement by a special court, the actress’ brother is granted bail in the drugs case

Actress Rhea Chakraborty‘s brother Showik Chakraborty has been granted bail by Special NDPS court, three months after his arrest over drugs case registered by Narcotics Control Bureau. He was arrested on 4th September along with Sushant Singh Rajput’s house manager Samuel Miranda. They were charged with multiple sections of the anti-narcotics law. Rhea was granted bail in October, a month after her arrest.

The Mumbai court cited the recent Supreme Court judgement which stated that the statements or confessions before an NCB officer were not admissible. Showik had approached the court for bail in the first week of November. Earlier in October, Bombay High Court denied him bail when his sister was granted the bail. The court stated that they had enough evidence that he was a part of a chain of drug dealers.

NCB has repeatedly stated that the siblings had bought the drugs to supply them to late actor Sushant Singh Rajput. They also stated that supplying the drugs was a more serious offence. They called Rhea “an active member of a drugs syndicate”.

Earlier this year, actor Sushant Singh Rajput was found dead in his Mumbai home. While the Mumbai Police launched a suicide probe, the actor’s family accused Rhea of mentally harassing the actor and taking money from him. Ever since a drug angle was found in the case, NCB has been probing all the allegations of drug abuse related to the late actor’s death in June.
