Raj Kapoor, commonly referred to as Charlie Chaplin of Indian cinema, was quite fond of his children and grand children. It is also said that Karisma Kapoor was one of his favorites too. But, did you know that the legendary actor had put a condition, before coming to see Karisma in hospital.
The condition was that the newborn must have blue eyes. In the book, Raj Kapoor: The One and Only Showman, Babita has mentioned, “I remember the day Lolo was born, the entire family was with me by my side at Breach Candy Hospital, except my father-in-law. He said that he would come to the hospital only if the newborn had blue eyes. Thank the lord that Lolo had deep blue eyes, like my father-in-law.”
In the same book, Ritu Nanda, daughte of Raj Kapoor, revealed how Lolo’s grandfather used to react whenever Karisma used to say that she wants to become an actress. She mentioned, “It is strange but Lolo (Karisma) also would be asked the same question by her grandfather! Lolo also used to say that I wanted to be an actor, and he would say the same line one day you will be a big star.”
Karisma entered the film world not according to her father’s wish. She dropped college to become an actress and had a grand Bollywood career debut in film Prem Qaidi in 1991 and went on to play the lead lady in a series of box office hits.
