A royal aide has shed light on Queen Camilla’s unwavering support for King Charles III while managing her own royal responsibilities following his cancer diagnosis in 2024. In an interview with Newsweek for a cover story published on March 12, the aide described the period as “exhausting,” noting that even someone half Camilla’s age would have found it draining.
Despite the challenges, the aide suggested that the situation provided an opportunity for the media and the public to gain deeper insight into the Queen’s long-standing commitments. Camilla’s ability to balance royal engagements with personal concerns was particularly evident during her visit to a London cancer center on January 31, 2024. At the time, she was aware of the King’s diagnosis, yet maintained composure, showing no visible signs of distress in public. The aide called her resilience “astonishing,” as she continued her duties without revealing the private struggles she faced.
Buckingham Palace had officially announced on February 5, 2024, that King Charles III had been diagnosed with an undisclosed form of cancer following treatment for an enlarged prostate. The news came shortly before Princess Kate Middleton revealed her own cancer diagnosis after undergoing abdominal surgery. While Kate has since announced her remission, the King is believed to still be undergoing treatment.
Despite his health challenges, Charles has maintained a demanding schedule, including a visit to Poland in January and an upcoming trip to Italy in April. Royal experts have emphasized his dedication, with former palace staff highlighting his commitment to duty and his determination to continue fulfilling royal obligations.
