
Lata Mangeshkar celebrates her 94th birthday on September 28. Prime Minister Modi paid a heartfelt tribute to the great singer, who died on February 6, 2022, at the age of 92. PM Modi praised “Lata Didi and her contribution to Indian music.”
Taking to X (formerly known as Twitter) he wrote, “Remembering Lata didi (sister) on her birth anniversary. Her contribution to Indian music spans decades, creating an everlasting impact. Her soulful renditions evoked deep emotions and will forever hold a special place in our culture.”

Lata Mangeshkar, recognised as the “Nightingale of India,” was born on September 28, 1929, and her impact to Indian music is irreplaceable. Her voice boomed over the entire nation and continues to create the same charm even after she passed away.
Lata Mangeshkar received many awards and honours during her decades-long career. In 2001, she was awarded the Dadasaheb Phalke Award as well as the Bharat Ratna. In 2007, she was named an Officer of the National Order of the Legion of Honour, France’s highest civilian honour.
Aayega Aanewaala from Mahal, Lag Ja Gale from Woh Kaun Thi, and Pyaar Kiya To Darna Kya from Mughal-E-Azam are some of her most famous songs.
Before declining further nominations, Lata Mangeshkar received three National Film Awards, 15 Bengal Film Journalists’ Association Awards, two Filmfare Special Awards, the Filmfare Lifetime Achievement Award, and four Filmfare Best Female Playback Awards. She was the first Indian playback singer to perform in London’s Royal Albert Hall in 1974.
Lata Mangeshkar passed away on February 2022 of multi-organ failure.
