Nepotism debate: Anurag Kashyap on Karan Johar ‘He can make someone’s career, can not break anyone’

The Bollywood filmmaker Karan Johar is going through a rough patch because of harsh online comments and bullying. Sushant Singh Rajput’s untimely demise ignited the debate over nepotism which resulted into a blame game and Karan Johan was caught in the centre of this debate. People took it to their social media to voice their concern and started the word-war.

While many opted for the high ground and formally put forward their views, few took the other way and started abusing and posting gruesome posts for the filmmaker. It was just the starting, it has been more than a month since Sushant died and the filmmaker is still being slammed and called out for being the face of nepotism in Bollywood. Karan Johar also received several threatening messages for himself and his family.

When other celebrity friends of Johar decided to be missing-in-action over the issue, filmmaker Anurag Kashyap has finally voiced his support to Karan in this matter. In a recent interview with NDTV, renowned filmmaker Anurag Kashyap said, “Karan Johar can make somebody’s career… by launching (him/her) in a big film, because he’s not just a filmmaker, he’s also a businessman. He understands. But he cannot break anyone.”

Anurag further added that the ongoing debate of the insider versus outsider should have happened 10 years ago because today outsiders get more opportunities than the insiders. He also revealed that it’s the audience who can empower outsiders by watching their films.

“Outsiders today get more opportunities today than they got 10 years back. The whole debate is 10 years late. Social media exists now, it didn’t exist then. Today, the audience has the power of validation. The audience can go and empower an outsider by watching his/her films,” he stated.
