Neena Gupta recalls Satish Kaushik who offered once to marry her – Read to know more

Neena said in her memoir, which was published in June 2021, that Satish Kaushik had proposed marriage to her and reassured her.

The sudden passing of Satish Kaushik has left a void in the Hindi film industry that will never be filled. On March 8th, the talented actor-director had a heart attack and died at 66. On March 9, friend and actor Anupam Kher tweeted the news. Javed Akhtar, a lyricist, and other of Satish’s Bollywood colleagues visited the late actor-filmmakers home to meet his family. Several celebrities, including Anupam Kher, Anil Kapoor, and many more, were known to have a strong relationship and connection with the late actor.

The fact that Satish had proposed to Neena Gupta after the actress learned she was conceiving wasn’t widely known until 2021. In 1989, Neena and Vivian Richards had their daughter Masaba Gupta outside of marriage. Although choosing to raise her children alone, Neena acknowledged in her book published in 2021 that Satish had asked to marry and give Masaba his name.

In a 2021 interview, Satish had given the reasons for his actions. When dating former West Indies cricketer Viv Richards in the 1980s, Neena became pregnant. She was a single parent to Masaba, who was born on November 2, 1989.

Neena said in her memoir, which was published in June 2021, that Satish Kaushik had proposed marriage to her and reassured her, “Don’t worry, if the child is born with dark skin, you can just say it’s mine and we’ll be married. Nobody will suspect a thing.”  In 2021, Satish Kaushik said in an interview with the Bombay Times that he had been friends with Neena since 1975. He said that the reason he proposed to her was that he cherished her as a friend.

Satish in an interview said, “I used to appreciate the fact that a girl at that time decided to have a child out of wedlock. As a true friend, I simply stood by her and gave her confidence. Whatever you are reading in the memoir, it was all an expression of my affection for her as a friend. I was concerned about not letting her feel alone. At the end of the day, that’s what friends are for, right? As mentioned in the book, when I offered to marry her, it was a mix of humour, concern, respect, and support for my best friend in her time of need.”

Neena on Thursday mourned the passing of her close friend and posted an emotional video on Instagram in which she spoke about ‘waking up to very sad news’. In Hindi, she uttered,  “There’s only one person in the whole world who called me Nancy, and I used to call him Kaushikan. Our friendship goes back to our college days, and we’ve shared a long association, whether we met often or not. He’s no more now. It’s very scary and sad…”
