Neena Gupta admits taking up work only for money; says “I cringe when I see myself in it”

Neena Gupta in an interview with Filmfare opened up about the time when she took up films only for money and didn’t want them to be released.

Veteran actress Neena Gupta revealed that she took jobs in films that she didn’t like just to pay the bills. She stated that she had a choice when it came to television, but she ended up doing “rubbish work” in films.

In the interview with Filmfare, she said, “Earlier I used to do films that I prayed would never see the light of day. I played badly-written characters because I had no work.”

The ‘Badhaai Ho’ actress, 62 explained, “On television, I’ve never done anything that I’ve not liked. But there I could choose. With films, I needed the money so I had to do such rubbish work, you can’t imagine. There is this one film that comes a lot on TV and I cringe when I see myself in it. So yes, now I have a responsibility and I’m quite clear in my head about what I like and what I don’t want to portray.”

The veteran actress has starred in films like Shubh Mangal Zyada Saavdhan and Sardar Ka Grandson. She also appeared in shows including Khandaan, Saans and Siski.

Meanwhile, she had recently released her autobiography called ‘Sach Kahun Toh’. Besides that, she will be seen in the upcoming Zee5 original Dial 100 alongside Manoj Bajpayee and Sakshi Tanwar. The film will stream on the OTT platform from August 6.
