Met Gala 2024: Amelia Gray’s dress sparks comparisons to Uorfi Javed’s ‘Solar system’ outfit; netizens say ‘Urfi deserves to be there at Met Gala’

Amelia, who made her Met Gala debut, went down the green-tinged carpet wearing a light-up terrarium dress by Jun Takahashi, with flowers and butterflies contained in it.

Amelia Grey Hamlin, an American model, made a stunning appearance at the Met Gala 2024 on Tuesday (IST) wearing a ‘rose-filled’ dress, and while she impressed the fashion police in the West, desi netizens pointed out that India’s very own fashionista, Uorfi Javed, had already done it days earlier.

Amelia, making her Met Gala debut, strolled down the green-tinged carpet in a Jun Takahashi light-up terrarium dress with flowers and butterflies—literally, a complete garden—encapsulated in it, and it was the perfect look for the event’s dress code, ‘The Garden of Time.’

But social media users quickly pointed out that Uorfi Javed donned a similar attire a few days earlier, but instead of a garden, she carried the entire world inside her frock. Uorfi recently uploaded photographs and videos on social media of herself wearing a similar garment with lights inside.

When the lights were turned on, the garment revealed a solar system and clouds within the spectacular crinoline.

Netizens remarked on Amelia’s images, saying that Uorfi pulled off the look much better and that Hollywood was ‘copying’ the actress. “Uorfi’s dress was the best,” one user commented, while another wrote, “Uorfi should have been invited to the Met Gala”. “Hollywood is copying our Uorfi,” a fan said.

Uorfi also liked the photo on Instagram, although she has yet to respond to the comparison.

As the Met Gala 2024 looks went viral, netizens commented that Uorfi should have walked down the red carpet of the fashion show because she is recognised for her unique sartorial choices.

Uorfi was seen stepping out a few days ago wearing a black gown with flowers, and as she posed for the paparazzi, the flowers bloomed, releasing butterflies from the outfit. Netizens also recalled the outfit, saying it was ideal for the Met Gala 2024 theme and dress code.
