Subbalakshmi, a veteran Malayalam actress, passed away on Thursday night at Thiruvananthapuram Private Hospital. The actress was eighty-seven years of age.
1936 saw the birth of Subbalakshmi in Thrissur, Kerala. She has previously taught dance and music at Jawaharlal Bhavan. The actress was All India Radio’s first female composer for stations in South India. In 2002, Subbalakshmi made her feature film debut. The actress gained recognition for her innocent smile and ability to make people laugh. Notably, the actress has appeared in more than 65 television series and delighted audiences with her live music performances.
Subbalakshmi has acted in other films such as Kalyanaraman, Nandanam, Pandippada, CID Moosa, and Thilakkam. Over the years, she has performed in more than 75 films across all genres. She most recently appeared in the Vijay-led Tamil blockbuster “Beast.” She also appeared in Naga Chaitanya’s film “Ye Maaya Chesave.” She performed in supporting roles in numerous Hindi films in addition to those in the southern film industries.
Don, starring Sivakarthikeyan and directed by Cibi Chakravarthi, was Subbalakshmi’s last cinema. The actress is scheduled to appear in Suresh Gayathri’s next Sanskrit film Madhubhashitham, which stars Lakshmi Gopalaswamy in a pivotal role.

Sowbhagya Venkitesh, Subbalakshmi’s granddaughter, posted on Instagram “I lost her. 30 years of my strength and love.My Ammamma, My Subbu, My baby. Thank you for the prayers.”
She taught popular music and dance in addition to acting before she began her profession in her 60s. She was the first female composer of music for All India Radio, and she has been employed there since 1951.
She leaves a huge hole in the hearts of millions of fans around the world. May she rest in peace.
