Kiran Rao must be ecstatic, and deservedly so. Her second project as a director, Laapataa Ladies, has been chosen to represent India at the Academy Awards 2025. While at present the world is championing her role in the comedy-drama movie, she praised her team for their part in the successful film. In a recent talk, she let on about her three all-time favorite scenes in the film, featuring Nitanshi Goel, Sparsh Shrivastava, Pratibha Ranta, Abhay Dubey, Chhaya Kadam and Ravi Kishan.
In a conversation with NDTV, the filmmaker highlighted the three scenes from the film that mean a lot to her. The first on her list is the last scene involving Phool Kumari (portrayed by Nitanshi Goel) and Jaya Singh (portrayed by Pratibha Ranta). She emphasized that since the audience rarely sees both characters together for most of the film, it is a distinctive and one of her favorite scenes.
Next up is the dining scene, where the women of the house have dinner together. The director of Dhobi Ghat said, “It was a very cold night and we lit a fire. It was lovely to shoot and it actually had so much of women’s sisterhood.” Lastly, its the scene where Manju Maai (played by Chaaya Kadam) is in her tea stall sharing a heartfelt conversation with Phool and revealing the hard truths of life, followed by a tutorial on how the world functions.
In her official statement, Rao conveyed her gratitude to Aamir Khan Productions and Jio Studios, her producers, for their enduring support and confidence in her creative vision.
