Filmmaker Kiran Rao, in an interview, has expressed hope about her film Laapataa Ladies being considered for India’s official entry for the 2025 Academy Awards. It is the filmmaker’s long-cherished dream that her film would represent the country at the Oscar stage.
Simultaneously, Kiran also said that the best film from the lot will be chosen by the Film Federation of India (FFI). “My dream would be fulfilled if it was, if it would go (to Oscars). But it’s a process, and I’m hoping it’ll (Laapataa Ladies) be considered.” Kiran told PTI.
Laapataa Ladies is a heartwarming, empowering film based on two brides in rural India in 2001, who are swapped inadvertently during a train journey. This film is produced by Kiran’s Kindling Productions and Aamir Khan Productions.
The film released in March this year to praise from the film fraternity, and also featured Nitanshi Goel, Pratibha Ranta and Sparsh Shrivastav in lead roles along with Ravi Kishan, Chhaya Kadam and Geeta Aggarwal Sharma in supporting roles.
Meanwhile, Anil Kapoor and Aditya Roy Kapur starrer The Night Manager has become the only Indian series to have secured an entry to Emmy Awards. The show also starred Sobhita Dhulipala.
