As per the insider reports, veteran Bollywood actress Juhi Chawla has been cast in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s next project, Heeramandi. Earlier rumours were floating on the social media of names like Sonakshi Sinha, Manisha Koirala and Nimrat Kaur as the lead actress. But the exclusive news thrashes all the rumours. The insider revealed that Juhi recently had a meeting with the director where she instantly said yes.
Heeramandi, like previous projects of Bhansali, will be a period drama capturing the time period of the 19th century to the time before partition. Heeramandi consists of an ensemble cast including Sonakshi Sinha, Manisha Koirala, Nimrat Kaur, Sanjeeda Sheikh and Diana Penty. Heeramandi will be an eight-episode web series where Sanjay will only be directing the first and the last episode.
Sanjay Leela Bhansali is surely one of the directors of Bollywood who is on every actor’s wishlist. From Kartik Aryan to newbie Siddharth Chaturvedi from Gully Boy, actors have expressed their longing to work with the magician director. Sanjay is known for decorating the celluloid with his larger than life vision which engulfs the viewer in the story for the time. But apart from being a visual spectacle his films also have stellar characters that become immortal. Be it the tragic love story of Paro and Devdas or villainous character of Allauddin Khilji, the characters are still remembered.
His last film Gangubai Kathiawadi with Alia Bhatt in the main lead was about to release on 30 July 2021 but the second wave of pandemic postponed the release till further notice.
