Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na, starring Imran Khan and Genelia D’souza, was kind of romantic comedy that was once a staple in Bollywood. Now, 16 years later, when Imran is all set to announce his comeback, many of his fans must have wondered if there ever could be a sequel to this movie.

What’s interesting is that director Abbas Tyrewala recently spoke of how he and Aamir Khan, who produced the film, had discussed a sequel and the former had pitched the idea to Aamir.

“I don’t know if I am allowed to say this. Mr Aamir Khan is very sensitive about what should be spoken of and what not but just after Jaane Tu, I came up with the idea of a sequel. Even I was not sure whether I was kidding or not,” he recalled. Abbas then narrated his story idea which, on the spot, was rejected by Aamir.

He added that the narrated the story to Aamir, and said that the film will start with Jay and Aditi living separately as the former is having an affair with Meghna. Upon hearing this, 3 Idiots star said that he does not care who really makes the sequel, but it cannot be him, since this is “the stupidest thing,” recalled Abbas with a laugh.

Then he explained why that, in his mind, made perfect sense. “I said that’s how life occurs.”
