Bollywood star Deepika Padukone revealed that she did not charge anything for her remarkable and well-received special role in Jawan, starring Shah Rukh Khan, Nayanthara, and Vijay Sethupathi. The film has now made over Rs 650 crore globally, breaking multiple records at the box office.
Deepika stated in an interview with The Week that her friendship with Shah Rukh extends beyond business and that they are ‘lucky charms’ for one other. Besides Jawan, they have collaborated in Om Shanti Om, Happy New Year, Chennai Express, and Pathaan.
Deepika revealed why she never charged for her special appearances in films such as Jawan, 83, and Cirkus, saying, “I wanted to be a part of 83 because I wanted it to be an ode to women who stand behind their husbands’ glory. I watched my mother do it. It was my homage to wives who make sacrifices to support their husbands’ careers.”
Deepika added, “Other than that, any special appearance for Shah Rukh Khan, I am there. Same with Rohit Shetty.”
Deepika played Romi Bhatia, the wife of renowned cricketer Kapil Dev, in the movie ’83.’ On the other side, the actress appeared with Ranveer Singh’s Cirkus in the song Current Laga Re, which was released in 2022 but failed to impress the audience at the box office.
In Jawan, Shah Rukh portrays both the son (Azad) and the father (Vikram Rathore). In the film, Deepika played Vikram’s wife and Azad’s mother. For her spectacular cameo, she has received praise from both film critics and audiences.
Meanwhile, Deepika will next be seen in Siddharth Anand’s Fighter, alongside Hrithik Roshan. The film is scheduled to be released in January 2024. She also has Prabhas, Amitabh Bachchan, and Disha Patani in Kalki 2898 AD.
