Former Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has provided an update on the demise of Bollywood actor Sushant Singh Rajput. In 2020, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) took over the Bihar Police case. Three years later, neither the investigating agency nor the matter has been closed.
Fadnavis has now reportedly stated that an investigation is underway and that the credibility of evidence is being investigated.
“At first, the information available was based on hearsay. However, some individuals asserted that they possessed substantial evidence regarding the case. In response, we reached out to them and requested that they submit the evidence to the police,” Fadnavis recently told a news channel.
He added, “Currently, we are in the process of examining the credibility of the presented evidence. The investigation is still in progress, and it would be premature for me to provide any comments on the eventual outcome of the case at this stage.”
Sushant was discovered dead in his Bandra flat on June 14, 2020, after fighting depression. His family accused Rhea Chakraborty, an actress and his fiancée, of abetting his suicide, betraying him, and unjustly locking him up.
Sushant’s death sparked a political uproar in Maharashtra, and the matter was subsequently handed over to the CBI. Following that, the Enforcement Directorate and Narcotics Control Bureau joined the investigation to look into various aspects of the death.
In the narcotics case, several stars, including Deepika Padukone, Shraddha Kapoor, and Sara Ali Khan, were questioned, but no major proof was found. The NCB arrested Rhea in September 2020 and freed her on bond after nearly a month.
