David Benioff and DB Weiss, who have established themselves in fantasy genre with Game of Thrones, could have pretty much recruited any talent they desired for their upcoming sci-fi drama, 3 Body Problem, which premieres on Netflix this week.
However, one person remained immune to their offer, as the creative pair has revealed that former president Barack Obama turned down their bid for him to make a cameo appearance.
In a conversation with USA Today, Benioff shared that, along with fellow showrunner Alexander Woo, they had made the request to the former president after learning that he was a huge fan of the original novel. “He did sign a very funny note, when we tried to get him for a cameo. It was to the effect of, ‘In case there ever is a real alien invasion, I think I should probably save myself for the that crisis’.”
The upcoming series follows five earthbound character trying to defend the planet from aliens’ invasion. This is the biggest project from Benioff and Weiss, ever since their GOT, which ran for eight successful seasons.
