Singer Daler Mehndi has been sentenced to 2 years of imprisonment in the 19-year-old human trafficking case.

The Patiala Sessions Court on Thursday upheld the lower court’s 2018 verdict. The Patiala House Court has convicted Daler Mehndi in the case referring to the pigeon pelting in 2003.

As per the general provisions of the Citizenship Act as amended in 2003. The accused proven to the violation is also liable to be imprisoned for 2–8 years and fined.

Daler Singh who is better known as Daler Mehndi is a singer, songwriter, author, and record producer. He is known for his efforts to popularize Bhangra worldwide.

Moreover, on 19th of September 2003, Shamsher Mehndi. Who is The elder brother of Daler Mehndi, was accused of illegally transporting people abroad through pigeon pelting music bands. Which involves trespassing over border territory without authoritative clearance. Thus, following the incident an FIR was registered against them in the case.

Further, Daler Mehndi’s name came up during the investigation.

Although, the case was registered against him in 2003. After 15 years in 2018, the lower court sentenced him to 2 years of imprisonment.

After which, the Patiala Sessions Court then in 2022 today upheld the lower court’s verdict as well imploring his violation of the following laws.

However, as per the judicial code he does have the option to challenge the verdict in the High Court. And further in the Supreme Court to challenge all the verdicts imposed against him.
