Singer and rapper Badshah recorded his statement in fake social media followers’ case on Thursday. Mumbai police summoned the rapper on August 3.
Sources in the Special Investigation Team told Mirror Now, “We have recorded Aditya Prateek Singh Sisodia alias Badshah’s statement today. We have called him again tomorrow for a detailed and complete statement.”
The case came into spotlight when Bollywood singer Bhoomi Trivedi revealed that someone made a fake profile in her name claiming to be her social media manager and contacted other B-town people claiming to increase their followers the way he did for Bhoomi.
One choreographer got tricked and paid the fraudster. After having realized about the forgery he contacted Bhoomi and then she got to know about the entire fiasco.
She filed a complaint with Mumbai Police and the accused was incarcerated. But police realized the depth of the case and how a racket had been involved into this.
Mumbai Police and the Mumbai Police Cyber cell are a part of the SIT. DCP Nandkumar Thakur is heading the SIT and the investigation is looked after by CIO Sachin Vaze.
The SIT has made 2 arrests so far and has identified around 70 companies suspected to be a part of this fake social media block chain. These companies are accused of selling fake social media activities [comments, views, likes, shares, retweets etc]
Badshah had been grilled for nearly 10 hours and has been asked as many as 238 questions according to sources. He reached the CIU office at 12:30 pm and came out at 9:45 pm. The fact that Badshah’s songs have garnered millions of views but the comments are only a few hundred have raised even more questions.
The police have taken down the statements of nearly 30 people in this case.
Chtrbox Influencer Marketing Issue
On 29th July, ‘20 the Mumbai police had issued summons to radio jockey Roshan Abbas and former IPL commentator and actor Gaurav Kapoor in connection with the fake social media followers scam. They have invested in Chtrbox Digital Company, owned by Pranay Swaroop.
Chtrbox is one of the leading social media influencers marketing company. Last year it was accused of leaking private data of as many as 49 million Instagram users.
