Chris Hemsworth’s Oscars selfie with Billie Eilish seals his fate—‘We will never be best friends’

Speaking on The Late Show With Stephen Colbert on March 26, the Thor star humorously admitted that his decision to ask for a photo with the Grammy-winning singer likely cemented his status as a mere fan rather than a potential friend.

Chris Hemsworth recently reflected on a lighthearted yet telling moment at the Oscars that, in his words, may have cost him the chance of forging a close friendship with Billie Eilish.

Speaking on The Late Show With Stephen Colbert on March 26, the Thor star humorously admitted that his decision to ask for a photo with the Grammy-winning singer likely cemented his status as a mere fan rather than a potential friend.

Hemsworth recalled his initial reluctance to approach Eilish for a picture but ultimately gave in, motivated by the thought of impressing his children—India, 12, and twins Sasha and Tristan, 11—whom he shares with wife Elsa Pataky. “I remember thinking, ‘Ah, don’t do it, don’t do it,’” he said, but the desire to delight his kids won out.

“The moment I took it, I was like, ‘I went from work colleague to now like a fan,’” he joked, adding that this likely meant he and Eilish would never be best friends.

Despite never having collaborated professionally, Hemsworth mentioned that he and Eilish occasionally cross paths in the industry. The now-viral Oscars snapshot captured Eilish beaming as she stood between Hemsworth and Pataky, a moment that, while cherished by fans, solidified the actor’s belief that he had irreversibly placed himself in the ‘fan zone.’

Though a friendship may not be on the cards, the actor’s lighthearted take on the encounter proves that even Hollywood’s biggest stars are not immune to feeling starstruck.
