Shooter Chandro Tomar succumbed to COVID-19 in Meerut at the age of 89. She was admitted due to difficulty in breathing.
Civil Aviation Minister, Harshdeep Singh Puri, mourning the demise of the shooter, wrote, “An epitome of gender equality & champion of women’s rights Smt Chandro Tomar, known as ‘Shooter Dadi’ by her fans & admirers is no more.
The courage with which she challenged patriarchy & took up shooting as a sport will inspire generations to come.
Condolences to her family.”

The famous biopic ‘Saand Ki Aankh’ was based on the journey of the ‘Shooter Dadi’ Chandro Tomar. Celebrities, like Bhumi Pednekar and Taapsee Pannu, who worked in the biopic have also mourned her death.
