Aamir Khan landed his first ever acting job accidentally; Deven Bhojani recalls his theatre days

Deven Bhojani, renowned for his iconic roles in TV shows such as Sarabhai vs Sarabhai, Office Office, and Baa Bahoo aur Baby, recently shared a fascinating anecdote about his early days in theatre with Aamir Khan. Before starring alongside Aamir in the 1992 film Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikander, Bhojani revealed how an unexpected twist led to Aamir’s first acting opportunity.

During his appearance on Laksh Maheshwari’s podcast, Bhojani recalled doing theatre with Aamir, but they never worked together as Aamir was always working backstage. “We were part of a Gujarati play directed by Mahindra Joshi, who wouldn’t give Aamir a role and kept him backstage. After a few shows, we had to tour Gujarat. I was pursuing my CA articleship then and couldn’t get leave from my boss. Unable to join the tour, Aamir replaced me in the play. That small role was Aamir’s first time acting on stage.”

Bhojani also shared a heartwarming moment from Aamir’s daughter Ira Khan’s wedding, where the Laal Singh Chadha actor introduced Bhojani saying, “I am here because of this guy.”
