Aamir Khan embraces the Har Ghar Tiranga campaign as he proudly displays the tricolour at his home

Aamir Khan raised the tricolour at his Mumbai residence following the Har Ghar Tiranga campaign.

Aamir Khan exhibited tricolour at his Mumbai home on Friday, one day after the release of his film Laal Singh Chaddha, to join the Har Ghar Tiranga campaign. The Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav campaign invites people to carry the Tiranga home and hoist it to commemorate India’s 75th year of freedom. From August 13 to 15, the Central Government has invited individuals to hoist or display the tricolour in their houses. Aamir was seen standing on his balcony with his daughter Ira Khan on Friday evening. A tricolour flag was also observed near the fence.

After nearly four years, Aamir returned to the big screen on Thursday with the flick Laal Singh Chaddha. The film is an official remake of Forrest Gump, starring Tom Hanks. It centres on the life of Laal (Aamir), a slow-witted but kind-hearted man who tells the key events in his life, which coincide with many iconic events in Indian history.

Aamir was scheduled to visit Assam for the Independence Day festivities, but he was ordered to cancel his trip. According to Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, Aamir’s planned visit to Assam has been postponed till after the Independence Day festivities at his request. The Assam Chief Minister requested that Aamir postpone his arrival so that the “focus” would not shift away from the Independence Day gala.

Meanwhile, a case has been filed in Laal Singh Chaddha against Aamir and others for allegedly “disrespecting the Indian Army and hurting Hindu emotions.” Objections have been made over the film’s depiction of a mentally handicapped individual being permitted to join the Indian Army and serve in the Kargil War, as well as Aamir’s comment in the film: “Puja path is malaria, it produces riots.”
