On Thursday, the food delivery service Zomato said that it has temporarily stopped onboarding new customers onto the Unified Payments Interface it launched in May in order to integrate feedback. The business said that it would begin adding new users to the app before the end of the month. The Gurugram-based company and ICICI Bank collaborated to introduce Unified Payments Interface (UPI) services for a select group of consumers in the nation in May of this year.

“To better take into account user input on the onboarding process, the UPI product has been momentarily suspended for new user onboarding. By the end of the month, we will begin accepting new users, a Zomato spokeswoman promised.

The National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) created the real-time payment platform known as UPI. The service allows users to send money straight from their phones to other users by using a UPI PIN on compatible apps. Google Pay, Paytm, and PhonePe are a few of the leading companies in the nation that provide UPI service. In May of this year, Zomato announced the introduction of its own Zomato UPI service in collaboration with ICICI Bank, ready to compete with Google Pay and PhonePe. By allowing customers to utilise the facility without completing KYC, Zomato UPI aimed to improve the efficiency of online payments.

Users must generate their UPI ID on the Zomato app in order to utilise the Zomato UPI. “UPI Facility provides Users of UPI member banks with an immediate, round-the-clock interbank electronic fund transfer or fund collection service. According to a press release from Zomato at the time, “ICICI Bank will offer Users a mobile application that will leverage the NPCI UPI library to facilitate payments.
