Patel Engineering Limited, a prominent infrastructure company based in Mumbai, has been awarded a significant contract valued at ₹1,593.08 crore for Package 2 of the 669 MW Lower Arun Hydropower Project in Nepal. The contract was awarded by SJVN Lower Arun Power Development Company (P) Ltd., a subsidiary of SJVN.
The project involves critical civil and hydro-mechanical works essential to the Lower Arun Hydro-Electric Project. It includes the construction of Adit-5 and Adit-6 leading to the Head Race Tunnel, and the Part Head Race Tunnel, which measures 10.5 meters in diameter and extends 5.41 kilometers. The scope also covers the Surge Shaft and its gates, the Pressure Shaft with the Butterfly Valve Chamber and Access Adit, and the Power House, Switchyard, Surface Pothead Yard, and Tail Race Channel. Additionally, the package includes the installation of steel liners for the Pressure Shafts, Draft Tube Gates and hoists, and the completion of associated road works and supporting infrastructure.
The project is strategically located near Tumlingtar in the Sankhuwasabha District of Nepal, approximately 264 km from Siliguri, India. It is scheduled for completion within 54 months.
